The City of Santa Clarita has been eligible to receive grant funding from this program every
year. The funds awarded are based on population, with each entity receiving a minimum grant of

Honorable Marsha McLean, Mayor
City of Santa Clarita
23920 Valencia Boulevard
Santa Clarita, California 91355
Dear Mayor McLean:
Over the past several years, the City of Santa Clarita has received significant criminal justice
grant funds under Assembly Bill 1913 that has aided us in our efforts to make Santa Clarita a
safer place to live and work. This year's grant provides $333,301 from the State of California
for the Citizen's Option for Public Safety (COPS) Program. The COPS grant has been used to
enhance our efforts to curb youth crime in Santa Clarita. Specifically, the funding has enabled
us to partially pay for the salaries for the COBRA Team.
In the past years, in addition to COBRA Team's mission of working to decrease gang activity,
graffiti, and other juvenile crimes, they have also provided gang and drug education awareness
for all seventh -grade students in Santa Clarita. They are an integral part of the Teen Court
intervention and the City of Santa Clarita Community Court Diversion Programs.
I am asking that you approve the use of the COPS Grant funds to continue these programs.
Should you have any questions or require additional information, feel free to telephone me at
(661) 799-5101.
Sincerely,
JIM McDONNELL, SHERIFF
