BACKGROUND
Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped build, repair, and renovate more than 600,000
affordable homes throughout the world. Habitat for Humanity's North Los Angeles office,
which serves the Santa Clarita Valley and the San Fernando Valley, has built 359 affordable
homes to date. In Santa Clarita alone, 78 homes will be built as part of the Enriched
Neighborhood Affordable Housing Veterans' project. Fifty-four affordable homes have been
built during phase one and two of the project.
Habitat for Humanity is seeking financial assistance with completing phase three of the project,
which would create 24 additional homes in Santa Clarita. Habitat for Humanity has faced
unanticipated costs during phases one through three of the project, primarily due to rainfall,
which necessitated additional retaining walls and retention basins. Those increased costs have
drained resources from other Habitat for Humanity services and programs. Such services and
programs include, but are not limited to, social service initiatives and programs in an affordable
neighborhood honoring veterans. The veterans are supported by the veteran -specific community
of homes and by the wrap around services they receive.
To allow their services and programs to continue, Habitat for Humanity has requested funding in

Providing the funding supports the City's goals of facilitating and assisting in the creation of
affordable housing opportunities and services.
