SUBJECT: DESIGNATION OF A VOTING DELEGATE AND UP TO TWO
ALTERNATE VOTING DELEGATES FOR THE 2019 LEAGUE OF
CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council appoint a voting delegate and up to two alternate voting delegates for the City of
Santa Clarita for the 2019 League of California Cities Annual Conference.
BACKGROUND
The League of California Cities (League) is an association of California city officials who work
together to enhance their knowledge, exchange information, and combine resources. The
League's objective is to expand and protect local authority for cities through education and
advocacy to enhance the quality of life for all Californians.
The League Annual Conference is scheduled for October 16-18, 2019, in Long Beach. An
important part of the League Annual Conference is the General Assembly Meeting scheduled on
Friday, October 18, 2019, at the Long Beach Convention Center. At this meeting, the League
membership will consider and potentially take action on resolutions that establish League policy.
In order to vote at the General Assembly Meeting, the City Council is asked to designate a voting
delegate. The City Council may also appoint up to two alternate voting delegates, one of whom
may vote in the event that the designated voting delegate is unable to serve in that capacity.
Only City Council designated delegates and alternates may vote at the General Assembly
Meeting.
As part of the annual consideration of City Council Committee Appointments earlier this year,
the City Council selected Mayor McLean and Mayor Pro Tem Smyth to serve as the delegate and
alternate respectively to the League of California Cities Los Angeles County Division.

FISCAL IMPACT
No additional resources beyond those contained within the adopted Fiscal Year 2019-20 City
Budget are required for implementation of the recommended action.
