FLAG SALUTE Mayor McLean led the flag salute. City Council Chambers THE MASTER'S CONCERT HANDBELL ENSEMBLE The Master's Concert Handbell Ensemble performed for the City Council and members of the public. ' PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FOR AGENDIZED ITEMS (ONE MINUTE LIMIT) There were no requests to speak. REMARKS BY OUTGOING MAYOR Mayor McLean commented on the City's 2019 accomplishments. Mayor Pro Tern Smyth offered congratulations to the Mayor for being an effective leader during recent tragedies that set Santa Clarita on the national stage. Mayor McLean gave mementos to each Councilmember. PRESENTATION TO OUTGOING MAYOR BY CITY MANAGER City Manager Ken Striplin highlighted the Mayor's accomplishments and presented the Mayor with a memento. PRESENTATIONS TO OUTGOING MAY BY NON -CITY OFFICIALS Making presentations to Mayor McLean were Maria Gutzeit, Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency Board Vice President; Kris Hough, Representing Senator Scott Wilk; Lauren Petersil, Representing Senator Henry Stern; Andrew Taban, Representing Assemblywoman Christy Smith; Vanessa Wilk, Representing Assembly Member Tom Lackey; Nicole Vartanian, Representing Supervisor Kathryn Barger; Nancy Starczyk, Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman; Teresa Todd, Santa Clarita Valley Industry Association Chairwoman; ' Eric Hamish, College of the Canyons Vice President of Public Information; Kevin MacDonald, Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center CEO; Matthew Nelson, Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club CEO; Mike Foley, Bridge to Home Executive Director; Laura Kirchhoff, Circle of Hope ' Executive Director; Deborah Rocha, SRD - Straightening Reins Executive Director; Barbara Meyer, Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley President; and Kim Kurowski, Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley Vice President of Membership. OUTGOING MAYOR TURNS GAVEL OVER TO THE CITY CLERK Mayor McLean turned the gavel over to City Clerk Mary Cusick. NOMINATIONS FOR MAYOR 2020 City Clerk Mary Cusick opened the nominations for the office of Mayor. Motion to: Nominate Mayor Pro Tem Smyth for Mayor RESULT: ADOPTED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Bill Miranda, Councilmember SECONDER: Laurene Weste, Councilmember AYES: McLean, Smyth, Kellar, Miranda, Weste CITY CLERK SWEARS IN NEW MAYOR City Clerk Mary Cusick administered the Oath of Office and handed the gavel to incoming Mayor Smyth. NOMINATIONS FOR MAYOR PRO TEM 2020 Mayor Smyth opened the nominations for Mayor Pro Tem. WAVLAUU tu, iiummum wuucumemoer ivuranua ror iviavor rro t em RESULT: ADOPTED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Marsha McLean, Councilmember SECONDER: Laurene Weste, Councilmember AYES: McLean, Smyth, Kellar, Miranda, Weste NEW MAYOR ACCEPTANCE SPEECH Mayor Smyth commented regarding projects that continue in 2020 including the Golden Valley Fire Station, the new Sheriff Station, the new Canyon Country Community Center, the Laemmle Theatre in Old Town Newhall, breaking ground on four new multi -use fields at Central Park, and opening the City's first inclusive play area at Canyon Country Park; and was inspired by the way the community came together after the Saugus tragedy. COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Weste commented that the City is an extraordinary place where Council and staff work as a team to be able to help the community; and thanked Councilmember McLean for all she did during the year as Mayor, and thanked all who served the community. Page 2 ' Councilmember McLean thanked her Commissioners for all of their hard work during the year Councilmember Kellar commented that it has been a pleasure working with all of the Councilmembers.
