Accept Fiscal Year 2020 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. 2. Increase estimated revenue in account 206-4461.021 (Justice Assistance Grant 2020) by $20,925. 3. Increase estimated expenditure in account 16121-5111.001 (Special Supplies) by $20,925. 4. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute all contracts and associated documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita (City) has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,925 by the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. JAG funds are allocated by using a formula based on each city's share of the total violent crimes reported within the state. This program allows state and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime, based on local needs and conditions. It provides agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and place JAG funds where they are needed most. With this allocation formula, the 2020 awarded amount reflects a decrease from JAG 2019 funds, which totaled $24,219. JAG 2020 grant funds will be used for the purchase of technologically -advanced equipment to enhance existing law enforcement, advance community policing efforts to help reduce crime, Page 1 Packet Pg. 27 0 address quality -of -life issues, and safeguard public safety in the City of Santa Clarita. Funds will be used for a compilation of purchases to improve traffic safety and enforcement, search and surveillance equipment, and active shooter training, which aim to enhance technology so our overall Sheriff s operations are more efficient and effective. Specifically, these items include handheld lidar units, training aids, sponge rounds, digital cameras, rechargeable battery packs, a microphone, voice recorders, and a telescoping ladder. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Other actions as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The total of this program is $20,925 to be offset completely by grant funds. Page 2 Packet Pg. 28
