RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution in support of Los Angeles County declaring March 20-24, 2017,
as "Southern California Aerospace Days."
BACKGROUND
On March 14, 2017, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution
declaring March 20-24, 2017, "Southern California Aerospace Days," in partnership with the
Southern California Aerospace Council (SCAC), an initiative of the Los Angeles Economic
Development Corporation. Southern California Aerospace Days is intended to highlight the
groundbreaking and innovative work produced by the Aerospace and Defense industry
throughout the region.
The number of aerospace and defense jobs in the Southern California is more than twice as
concentrated as the rest of the nation. As reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Economic
Development Corporation (SCVEDC), the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) alone is home to more
than 80 aerospace companies, which employ a significant number of the more than 54,000
aerospace workers in Los Angeles County. These companies, along with leading suppliers in the
aerospace industry, produce quality jobs and career paths for many of our residents.
The Aerospace and Defense Coalition promotes awareness of the SCV and encourages
collaboration among aerospace businesses. The City of Santa Clarita (City) supports initiatives
that highlight the work of aerospace and defense firms and other targeted sectors, such as
medical devices, advanced manufacturing, digital media and entertainment, and information
technology. Local companies such as Aerospace Dynamics International, B&B Manufacturing
Company, Crissair, Esterline TA Aerospace, Lamsco West, PPG Aerospace, Wesco Aircraft,

Regent Aerospace, Triumph Actuation Systems, and Woodward, among others, support the
