RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution establishing a total of 340 feet of no -stopping anytime zone
along the north and south sides of Avenida Velarte between Via Labrada and Via Jardin.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita (City) received resident requests to review the existing striping and
parking configuration on Avenida Velarte near the intersections of Via Labrada and Via Jardin.
The residents indicated that with the existing striping configuration motorists, often travel
outside the normal lane area on Avenida Velarte making them difficult to see. They also
indicated sight distance is further complicated by the presence of parked vehicles. City staff
completed a review of the area and determined establishing a no -stopping zone and
reconfiguring the striping on Avenida Velarte would position vehicles in a more visible location,
enhancing safety at the intersections with Via Labrada and Via Jardin. The striping
reconfiguration may be completed after the establishment of a no -stopping zone.
Staff went door-to-door to provide information and discuss the proposed project with residents
that may be impacted and received no opposition to the proposal.

FISCAL IMPACT
Installation of the necessary signs is estimated at $600. Adequate funds are available in Street
Maintenance expenditure account 14504-5141.008.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, TO ESTABLISH A 340-FOOT TOTAL NO -STOPPING ANYTIME ZONE
ALONG THE NORTH AND SOUTH SIDES OF AVENIDA VELARTE BETWEEN
VIA LABRADA AND VIA JARDIN
WHEREAS, Section 22507 of the California Vehicle Code of the State of California
provides for local authorities to prohibit stopping, standing, or parking of vehicles on certain
streets or highways or portions thereof during certain or all hours of the day; and
WHEREAS, 340 feet total of no -stopping anytime zone along the north and south
sides of Avenida Velarte, between Via Labrada and Via Jardin, will enhance safety by
accommodating future striping improvements and improve intersection sight visibility; and
WHEREAS, it is consistent with normal traffic engineering practices to establish a
no -stopping anytime zone along the north and south sides of Avenida Velarte, between Via
Labrada and Via Jardin, to enhance safety by accommodating future striping improvements and
improving sight visibility.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That a no -stopping anytime zone along the north and south side of
Avenida Velarte, starting at Via Labrada and extending east to Via Jardin for a total distance of
340 feet is established.
SECTION 2. That the establishing of the no -stopping anytime zone shall apply when
appropriate signs and/or curb markings giving adequate notice therefore have been placed as
described in Section 1.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
