SUBJECT: RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING SANTA CLARITA'S COMMITMENT
TO A DIVERSE, SUPPORTIVE, AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution reaffirming Santa Clarita's commitment to a diverse, supportive,
and inclusive community.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita (City) believes that diversity is a critical component of a thriving,
successful city, and that commitment to diversity strengthens communities, deepens bonds
between neighbors, and underlies the welcoming environment that makes Santa Clarita a great
community.
These City principles are included in the City of Santa Clarita's Philosophy and Mission
Statements which were adopted by City Council and include the following declarations: "We
appreciate diversity and will continue to foster an environment where hatred and bigotry cannot
exist;" and "We believe that diversity among staff and in the community creates strength."
Santa Clarita has a long tradition of commitment to providing programs and services that
promote diversity and inclusion. The City reaffirms its commitment to providing such programs,
services, and partnerships that encourage, assist, and empower our community to eliminate all
forms of discrimination, and to promote understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and
human differences.
In support of the City of Santa Clarita's long standing culture of embracing diversity, through
this resolution, the City reaffirms its status and commitment to a diverse, supportive, and
inclusive community.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA,
TO REAFFIRM SANTA CLARITA'S COMMITMENT
TO A DIVERSE, SUPPORTIVE, AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of
people makes our nation and communities richer and stronger; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita believes that diversity is a critical
component of a thriving, successful city, and that commitment to diversity strengthens
communities, deepens bonds between neighbors, and underlies the welcoming environment that
makes Santa Clarita a great place to live and work; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita welcomes all people and recognizes the
rights of individuals to live their lives with dignity and free of discrimination; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is committed to ensuring all members of our
community are free from acts that are rooted in fear, ignorance, prejudice, and hate.
NOW, THERFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The City of Santa Clarita reaffirms its status and commitment to be
an inclusive community.
SECTION 2. The City of Santa Clarita recognizes, values, and will support the
rights and privileges of all members of our diverse community.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
