SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF
MULTIWAY STOP CONTROL FOR THE INTERSECTION OF
VISTA RIDGE DRIVE AND FARROW DRIVE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the installation of multiway stop control for the
intersection of Vista Ridge Drive and Farrow Drive.
BACKGROUND
Vista Ridge Drive is a local residential street with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour. It has a
curving alignment, connecting Wiley Canyon Road with Tournament Road. Farrow Drive is a
residential street with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour, and it intersects Vista Ridge Drive at a
"T" intersection.
Residents along Vista Ridge Drive expressed concerns with vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, and
limited sight distance in their neighborhood near the intersection of Farrow Drive. Due to the
adjacent community pool and tennis courts, there is increased pedestrian activity in the area.
Staff conducted an investigation along Vista Ridge Drive and its intersection at Farrow Drive.
The investigation showed limited visibility at the intersection due to the curvature of Vista Ridge
Drive. Staff recommends the placement of a multiway stop control at this intersection to mitigate
the limited visibility, improve circulation, and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Staff notified the homeowners association for this neighborhood, and they are supportive of the
modification. Staff did receive comments from one resident concerned about the placement of a
stop sign in front of his residence. Staff notified the resident of the date this item would be
considered by the City Council.

Adequate funds are available in Street Maintenance expenditure account 14504-5141.008 to
proceed with the recommended action.

RESOLUTION NO. 16-
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF MULTIWAY STOP CONTROL
FOR THE INTERSECTION OF VISTA RIDGE DRIVE AND FARROW DRIVE
WHEREAS, Section 21345 of the California Vehicle Code allows local authorities to
design any intersection under their exclusive jurisdiction as a stop control intersection; and
WHEREAS, traffic operations along Vista Ridge Drive will benefit from the
installation of multiway stop control at the intersection of Vista Ridge Drive and Farrow Drive.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That the intersection of Vista Ridge Drive and Farrow Drive be
designated as a multiway stop control intersection. Traffic on Vista Ridge Drive and Farrow
Drive shall be required to stop before entering the intersection.
SECTION 2. That the stop designations, as provided herein, shall apply when
appropriate signs and pavement markings, giving adequate notice hereof, have been placed as
described in Section 1.
SECTION 3. That staff shall install all the necessary signs and pavement markings to
affect this resolution.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
