Approve a three-year agreement, with two one-year renewal options, that will allow the City to provide lit transport service to BAI Connect. 2. Authorize an increase of $30,000 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-21 to revenue account 100- 4312.008 Dark Fiber Lease and Fiber Transport. 3. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all contracts and associated documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND Since the approval of the Santa Clarita 2020 strategic plan, the City of Santa Clarita (City) has made significant progress in finding ways to utilize its vast fiber-optic network (FON) to promote and facilitate high-speed Internet access to local businesses. Key milestones in this endeavor include securing a middle-mile dark fiber connection from Santa Clarita to Downtown Los Angeles, and the procurement of high-capacity fiber equipment. By getting Santa Clarita connected to a major data center and Internet exchange, the City has significantly reduced barriers to entry for a number of potential Internet Service Providers (ISP). BAI Connect is among the first ISP ability to service the local business community. BAI Connect is a newly merged company formed by Bel Air Internet (BAI) and Aerio Connect. BAI has been one of the most reliable 14 years. Page 1 Qbdlfu!Qh/!9: 24 City staff recommends entering into a three-year agreement whereby the City would provide lit transport service of 10 Gbps to BAI Connect. This transport service will active, also known as ,fiber equipment to enable FON to Downtown Los Angeles and access the resources it will need to provide robust Internet service to businesses in Santa Clarita. The agreement will generate revenues of $116,400 to the City over three years; but more importantly, it will enable BAI Connect to increase its ability to service more local businesses with high-speed Internet. As part of this agreement, BAI Connect will utilize space within and atop The Cube Ice and Entertainment Center to service more local businesses with reliable and wireless high-speed Internet service. If approved, the City and BAI Connect anticipate the configuration and utilization of the transport service to begin during the summer. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Other action as determined by the City Council.
