HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-10-12 - MINUTES - JOINT STUDY SESSION NOTESCITY OF SANTA CLARITA City Council Arts Commission Joint Study Session Tuesday, October 12, 2021 Call to Order: Mayor Miranda called the Study Session to order at 5:06 p.m. Roll Call Council: All Councilmembers were present, with the exception of Mayor Pro Tem Weste who arrived at 5:07 p.m. Arts Commission: All Commissioners were present, with the exception of Vice -Chair Shapiro. Flag Salute: Arts and Events Manager Phil Lantis led the Flag Salute. ITEM 1 CITY OF SANTA CLARITA ARTS MASTER PLAN UPDATE — Arts and Events Manager Phil Lantis provided an update to the Arts Master Plan. Each Commissioner provided updates on additional art projects throughout the community. Council thanked the Arts Commission and spoke of community engagement, film festivals, and the Creative Industry report; requested the utilization of SCVTV to disseminate music and art talent, and the former Senior Center for arts, creating a new arts -cultural center and amphitheater, and adding a Canyon Country Bear to the community; and commented that arts embrace diversity and inclusion. ITEM 2 2022 ARTS COMMISSION PUBLIC ART REPORT - Arts and Events Manager Phil Lantis provided information on the 2022 Arts Commission Public Art Report. Mayor Pro Tem Weste inquired about artwork selected for the Vista Canyon Metrolink Station and Mr. Lantis responded that a selection committee will choose five selections representing trains and local history; and commented that sidewalk poetry is a success. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION No requests to speak were received.
