PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FOR AGENDIZED ITEMS (ONE MINUTE LIMIT) There were no requests to speak. REMARKS BY OUTGOING MAYOR Mayor Miranda commented on the past year's difficulties, the generosity and support from the community, and the City's 2021 accomplishments. PRESENTATION TO OUTGOING MAYOR BY CITY MANAGER City Manager Ken Striplin highlighted the Mayor's accomplishments and presented Mayor Miranda with a memento. Council offered their congratulations to the Mayor on his many historic accomplishments. PRESENTATION TO OUTGOING MAYOR BY NON -CITY OFFICIALS Making presentations to Mayor Miranda were State Senator Scott Wilk; State Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares; Board President, Gary Martin, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency; Board of Trustees President, Dr. Edel Alonso, representing the Santa Clarita Community College District; Tami Stephens, representing Congressman Mike Garcia; Vanessa Wilk, representing Assembly Member Tom Lackey; Natalie Vartanian, representing Supervisor Kathryn Barger; Mitch Hopewell, representing The Master's University; David Cantrell, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Industry Association; Holly Shroeder, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation; Liz Seelman, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and Latino Business Alliance; Kevin MacDonald, Packet Pg. 8 O representing the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center; Tracey Carpentier, representing Bridge to Home; Laurie Ender, representing Family Promise; Gloria Mercado-Fortine, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Foundation; Matt Nelson, representing the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club; Valerie Bradford, representing the NAACP, Santa Clarita Valley Chapter; and Andrew Taban, representing PFLAG Santa Clarita Valley. Mayor Miranda commented on the dedication and talent of the presenters. NOMINATIONS FOR MAYOR 2022 Mayor Miranda turned the gavel over to the City Clerk. City Clerk Mary Cusick opened the nominations for office of Mayor. Motion to: Nominate Mayor Pro Tem Weste for Mayor. RESULT: ADOPTED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Bill Miranda SECONDER: Jason Gibbs AYES: Miranda, Weste, Gibbs, McLean, Smyth CITY CLERK SWEARS IN NEW MAYOR City Clerk Mary Cusick administered the Oath of Office and handed the gavel to incoming Mayor Weste. NOMINATIONS FOR MAYOR PRO TEM 2022 Mayor Weste opened the nominations for Mayor Pro Tem. Motion to: Nominate Councilmember Gibbs for Mayor Pro Tem. RESULT: ADOPTED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Cameron Smyth SECONDER: Laurene Weste AYES: Miranda, Weste, Gibbs, McLean, Smyth NEW MAYOR ACCEPTANCE SPEECH Mayor Weste congratulated former Mayor Miranda for the honors that he received and commented that she looks forward to working on common goals as Mayor in 2022.
