DATE: April 12, 2022
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR AND RECEIPT
OF STATE TRANSIT ASSISTANCE FUNDS
DEPARTMENT: Neighborhood Services
PRESENTER: Adrian Aguilar
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution allowing the City Manager or designee to submit an annual claim
to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for State Transit Assistance
funds.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita (City) is eligible to receive State Transit Assistance (STA) funds
through the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for transit
operating assistance. These funds are derived from the statewide sales tax on diesel fuel and are
appropriated by the California State Legislature to the State Controller's Office (SCO). The SCO
allocates the tax revenue, by formula, to selected agencies. To receive the revenue, the City must
submit an annual claim form to Metro, along with a resolution adopted by the City Council,
authorizing the City Manager or designee to submit the annual claim package to Metro.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
This action has no fiscal impact. This resolution only allows the City to submit the annual claim
form and enter into agreements to receive the annual allocation. These funds are already included
in the annual budget.
