HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-03-22 - MINUTES - SPECIALCITY OF SANTA CLARITA City Council Special Meeting -Minutes- Tuesday, March 22, 2022 4:30 PM City Council Chambers CALL TO ORDER Mayor Weste called to order the Special Meeting at 4:30 p.m. ROLL CALL All Councilmembers were present, with the exception of Councilmember Smyth. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FOR AGENDIZED ITEMS Addressing the Council was Doug Fraser regarding the Anticipated Litigation subject matter. CLOSED SESSION Joseph Montes, City Attorney, advised of the need to conduct a Closed Session for the purpose of holding a: CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LfffGATION Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(1) Name of case: Michael Cruz et al. v. City of Santa Clarita LASC Case No. 21STCV47451 Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(1) Name of case: City of Santa Clarita v. Canyon View Limited, LP et al. LASC Case No. PC 058773 CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - ANTICIPATED LITIGATION Initiation of Litigation pursuant to California Government Code section 54956.9(d)(4): one matter RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION - TO BE HELD IN THE CENTURY ROOM Mayor Weste recessed the meeting to Closed Session at 4:32 p.m. RECONVENE TO OPEN SESSION Mayor Weste reconvened the meeting to Open Session at 6:05 p.m. CITY ATTORNEY ANNOUNCEMENT City Attorney Joseph Montes announced that in the case of City of Santa Clarita v. Canyon View Limited, while the City agrees with the Court's judgment that the City is the prevailing party and the panels were installed illegally and need to be removed, the City disagrees with Court's determination of estoppel. Therefore, on a 4-0 vote the Council has authorized a filing of appeal in that case. The City Attorney also announced in regards to the Initiation of Litigation item, the Council on a 4-0 vote has authorized the filing of litigation to challenge the recent determination by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors with regards to Camp Scott.
