C' li SUBJECT: RESOLUTION 94-71, APPLICATION FOR CALIFORNIA HEALTHY CITY STATUS DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation and Community Services BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita became one of the ten charter members of the California Healthy Cities Project in 1991. The City participates in projects chosen by our own Healthy Cities Steering Committee. Projects include: SECURE Emergency Preparedness Program; a Health Resource Guide for use by health-care providers, schools and individuals; and Super CPR Saturday, an event to make low cost CPR instruction available to large numbers of residents. Resolution Number 94-71 continues the City's participation in this project in Fiscal Year 1994/95. RECOMMENDATION Adopt Resolution No. 94-71 ATTACHMENT Resolution No. 94-71 PMN:sas premerprep\agenmA471 Adopted: c4 --9 y Ace.. 1hifl• RESOLUTION NO. 94-71 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA APPROVING THE APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE FOURTH YEAR OF THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHYCITIES PROJECT AND FOR THE SANTA CLARITA VALLEY HEALTHY CITIES DAY WHEREAS, the Western Consortium for Public Health has initiated the California Healthy Cities Project to contribute to the quality of lifein cities and ultimately the health status of its residents; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita has established a high priority for the improvement and preservation of high quality of life for its residents; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita is a Charter City of the Healthy Cities Project and has actively participated in the Healthy Cities Project since its inception in 1990; and WHEREAS, the California Healthy Cities Project provides assistance in identifying external sources of funds and program resources for projects such as "SCV Healthy Cities Day", "SCV Healthy Cities Steering Committee" and the "SCV Emergency Preparedness Training Program". WHEREAS, the designation of Healthy Cities Day will provide notice to our residents and surrounding communities of our support and continuing involvement in the Healthy Cities Project by our City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby: SECTION 1. Approves the FY 1994 Renewal Application for the California Healthy Cities Project; and SECTION 2. Approves the FY 1994 California Healthy Cities Proj ects; • "SCV Healthy Cities Day" • "SCV Emergency Preparedness Training Program" (SECURE) • Resource Guide • Local Grant Directory SECTION 3. Designates the Director of Parks and Recreation to execute and submit all documents necessary for the Completion of aforementioned items. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this day of 1994.
