Murphy Representative Howard P. 'Buck' McKeon has introduced a bill, H.R. 4721, which would prohibit the Secretary of Agriculture from transferring any property out of the Angeles National Forest for use as a solid waste landfill. This legislation, if enacted, would prohibit the conveyance of Elsmere Canyon out of federal ownership for use as a landfill. H.R. 4721 has been referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources for further consideration, though no specific time frame has been established for committee action. Representative McKeon has requested that the City of Santa Clarita lend active support for his legislative proposal. RECOMMENDATION Support H.R. 4721 and transmit statements of support to Representative McKeon, Senator Boxer, Senator Feinstein and appropriate committees of Congress. PROHIBMON ON CERTAIN TRANSFERS OF NA- 4 TIoNAL FOREST LANDS. 5 After the date of the enactment of this Act the See- ( retary of Agriculture shall not transfer (by exchange or 7 otherwise) any lands owned by the United States and sw 2 1 managed by the Secretary as part of the Angeles National 2 Forest to any person unless the instrument of conveyance 3 contains a restriction, enforceable by the Secretary, on the 4 future use of such land prohibiting the use of any portion S of such land as a solid waste landfill.
