DATE: September 27, 1994
SUBJECT: Potential Golf Course Development
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
A request was received from Robinson Golf Design, Inc, and Hunters Green Development Corporation for an
opportunity to appear before the City Council. The purpose of this presentation is to brief the City Council on the
proposed development of a regulation golf course within the City limits. The developer has also indicated a desire
to discuss the possibility of some form of City participation in the development of this project to establish an ongoing
revenue resource.
The investigation of the development of a public golf course within the City limits has been identified in the City's
Strategic Plan. Preliminary research on golf course development has shown that a successful operation can have
a positive economic impact on the surrounding community. Short-term benefits include jobs, sales tax increases,
and increased recreational opportunities. Long-term benefits include tourism, establishment of Santa Clarita as a
destination, creation of complementary business such as clothing, equipment, restaurants, etc., and the potential for
hosting nationally recognized events such as the LPGA tour.
RECOMMENDATION
The City Council direct staff to continue discussions with the developer as the project proceeds through the normal
project review process and to research economic opportunities.

Dear Rick;
In regard to our previous discussions concerning the proposed golf development in the
Sand Canyon area of the City of Santa Clarita, we are requesting at this time to appear
before the City Council at the upcoming meeting on September 27, 1994. The purpose of
this meeting is to update the Council on our proposal and to outline the broad issues as
they are set at this time. We, the developers, Robinson Golf Services, Inc. and Hunters
Green Development Corporation, are requesting from the Council to direct City staff
based on our presentation to continue discussions of the entitlement issues and for the
City's participation in the project.
Yours very truly,
Theodore G. Robinson
