At the September 13, 1994 City Council meeting the Caltrans study of a high speed rail link
between Los Angeles and Bakersfield was discussed. Council asked that staff bring back a
recommendation that can be transmitted to Caltrans during the public comment period which
closes on September 30, 1994.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council authorize submitting a letter to Caltrans during the public comment period for
the Los Angeles - Bakersfield High Speed Ground Transportation Feasibility Study
expressing the Council's strong support for construction of a high speed rail line with a
station in Santa Clarita, The Council also believes that both the I-5 and SR 14 alignments
will serve Santa Clarity well and remains neutral as to which alignment should be adopted at
this time.

Subject: Comments on Los Angeles - Bakersfield High Speed Ground
Transportation Feasibility Study
The City of Santa Clarita strongly supports the establishment of a high speed
rail link between Los Angeles and Bakersfield as part of a Statewide high
speed rail network. The City will benefit from this line and a station in the
Santa Clarita Valley.
It is our belief that both the I-5 and Highway 14 alignments will benefit Santa
Clarita. Therefore the City does not choose to recommend a particular
-,, alignment at this time. We do ask that as the study progresses that Caltrans
. ; 1 and its consultants work with City staff before determining station locations or
designs in the Santa Clarita Valley for both alignments.
We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to comment on this important
project and hope to continue working with Caltrans in the development of this
much needed infrastructure project.
Sincerely,
George Pederson
Mayor
