CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: TAA,/ DATE: May 23, 2023 SUBJECT: VALENCIA GLEN AQUATICS BUILDING - EMERGENCY REPAIR DEPARTMENT: Neighborhood Services PRESENTER: Jerrid McKenna RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council to continue to receive staff updates regarding the emergency repair project at Valencia Glen Park. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita (City) operates and programs six aquatic facilities, which include five community pools and the Aquatic Center. In February 2023, the City experienced unprecedented severe winter storms causing damage within the City. At the Valencia Glen Park Aquatics Building, a large tree fell on the facility and aquatics equipment, creating conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property. Following the event, City staff evaluated the damages to the building and equipment, reporting that the damages were beyond the control of the City's services, personnel, and equipment. The City Council ratified this emergency proclamation at the April 11, 2023 meeting. In the event of an emergency, Section 2.40.060 of the Santa Clarita Municipal Code (Code) allows procurement of the necessary equipment, services, and supplies for emergency purposes without giving notice for bids. Per the Code, staff will continue to provide the Council with updates on the emergency action until project completion. This item is intended to provide the Council with an update to this emergency repair since the last Council meeting. Since the May 9, 2023, City Council meeting, staff have received the full proposal from the contractor for the needed repairs. Since receiving the proposal, the insurance adjuster has reviewed and approved the proposal and all associated costs. Staff is in the process of routing a contract with California Commercial Pools, Inc. to complete the emergency repairs.
