AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, UPDATING THE CITY FIRE CODE - TITLE 22 OF THE SANTA CLARITA
MUNICIPAL CODE AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE 2023 LOS ANGELES
COUNTY FIRE CODE — TITLE 32
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita lies within the jurisdictional b.9iuldaries of the
Consolidated Fire Protection District of Los Angeles County (District); and
WHEREAS, the District has responsibility for fire protection within Wd,j&sdictional
boundaries; and —
WHEREAS, the County Board of Supervisors, acting as thelcov4k ng D6dy,QTthe
District did on January 31, 2023, adopt amendments to the District Fire -Code by adopting by
reference, with certain changes and amendments, the 2022 edition of the California Fire Code
and portions of the 2021 edition of the International Fire Code; and
WHEREAS, as allowed by State law, the District Fire Code contains local amendments
that constitute more restrictive building standards relating to fire and panic safety than those
adopted by the State Fire Marshal and contained in the California Building Standards Code; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 13869.7(c) of the California Health and Safety Code,
local amendments containing such more restrictive building standards are not effective within the
jurisdictional boundaries of the City until ratified by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City to ratify all of these more restrictive building
standards and to have those standards he enforced in the City; and
WHEREAS, the State of California (State) requires by its Government Code that local
jurisdictions adopt the latest State Building Standards Code.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Adopts the 2023 edition of the District Fire Code (the Los Angeles County
Fire Code, i.e. Title 32 of the Los Angeles County Code) as the Fire Code for the City.
SECTION 2. Ratifies the ordinance amending the District Fire Code, adopted on
January 31, 2023, with an effective date of March 2, 2023, by the Board of Supervisors which
contains more restrictive building standards,
..� SECTION 3. Finds that the more restrictive building standards contained in the District
Fire Code are reasonably necessary due to local climatic, geological, or topographical conditions
in the City and adopts by reference the specific findings made in Section 445 of the ordinance.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall become effective and in full force thirty (30) days from
its passage and adoption. n
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published as required by law.

regular meeting of the City Council on the 27' day of June. That thereafter, said Ordinance was
duly passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 11" day of July 2023, by
the following vote, to wit:

NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: Miranda
AND I FURTHER CERTIFY that the foregoing is the original of Ordinance No. 23-6
