CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council appoint a voting delegate and up to two alternate voting delegates to the 2023
League of California Cities Annual Conference.
BACKGROUND
The League of California Cities (Cal Cities) is an association of California city officials who
work together to enhance their knowledge, exchange information, and combine resources. Cal
Cities' objective is to protect and expand local authority for cities through education and
advocacy to enhance the quality of life for all Californians.
The Cal Cities Annual Conference (Conference) is scheduled for September 20-22, 2023, in
Sacramento. An important part of the Conference is the General Assembly Meeting scheduled on
Friday, September 22, 2023. At this meeting, Cal Cities membership will consider and
potentially act on resolutions that establish Cal Cities policy.
In order to vote at the General Assembly Meeting, the City Council is asked to designate a voting
delegate. The City Council may also appoint up to two alternate voting delegates, one of whom
may vote in the event that the designated voting delegate is unable to serve in that capacity. Only
City Council designated voting delegates and alternates may vote at the General Assembly
Meeting.
As part of the annual consideration of City Council Committee Appointments earlier this year,
the City Council selected Councilwoman McLean and Councilmember Smyth to serve as the
delegate and alternate, respectively, to the League of California Cities' Los Angeles County
Division. Councilwoman McLean also serves as a Regional Director of the League of California
