A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ON 13 ROADWAY
SEGMENTS
WHEREAS, Sections 22357 and 22358 of the California Vehicle Code permit local
authorities, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, to establish prima facie speed
limits on roadways within their jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, Section 40802 of the California Vehicle Code requires speed limits be
justified by an engineering and traffic survey conducted within five, seven, or ten years,
depending on certain requirements, to use radar and laser enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the effective and efficient use of radar and laser for traffic speed
enforcement can enhance roadway safety within the City of Santa Clarita, California (City).
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita, California, does
hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That prima facie speed limits shall be established on 13 roadway segments
included in the Engineering and Traffic Survey Study (Study) dated June 2023.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify the Study and make copies available to the
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Sheriffs Department) and courts.
SECTION 3. That City staff shall make the necessary signage changes to implement the
recommendations of the Study.
SECTION 4. That the Sheriff s Department conduct appropriate enforcement of the
prima facie speed limits established by this resolution.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this resolution.
