RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council discuss and recommend a member of the City Council to serve on the Los Angeles
County Executive Committee on Homelessness.
BACKGROUND
The Los Angeles County Executive Committee on Homelessness (Executive Committee) was
recently established through a motion by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (Board
of Supervisors) and is intended to develop a countywide plan to address homelessness. Forming
an Executive Committee on Homelessness was one of seven recommendations developed by the
Los Angeles County Blue -Ribbon Commission on Homelessness. The City Council supported all
seven recommendations as they were being considered for adoption by the Board of Supervisors
last year. All seven recommendations were adopted by the Board of Supervisors on May 3, 2022.
As prescribed by the motion, the Executive Committee consists of nine board members, which
includes two board members from the Board of Supervisors, appointed by the Chair of the Board
of Supervisors; Mayor of the City of Los Angeles; a Councilmember from the City of Los
Angeles, appointed by the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles; four sub -regional representatives,
representing the North County/San Fernando Valley sector, Southwest Corridor sector, San
Gabriel Valley sector, and Southeast sector and each of whom must be a Mayor or
Councilmember of a City within the sector they are representing; and a representative appointed
by the Governor.
Each sub -regional representative must be nominated by their Los Angeles County City Selection
Committee sub -region and ratified by the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee. The
Los Angeles County City Selection Committee plans to hold meetings in fall 2023 to appoint the
four sub -regional representatives.
