CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: TAA,/� DATE: January 9, 2024 SUBJECT: DEDICATION OF EASEMENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON NEWHALL COMMUNITY CENTER PARKING LOT DEPARTMENT: Neighborhood Services PRESENTER: Susan Nelson RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve and authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the attached Grant of Easement to Southern California Edison Company, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND Southern California Edison (SCE) has formally requested an easement spanning approximately 6,205 square feet on City of Santa Clarita (City) property, located at the Newhall Community Center and the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station, Assessor Parcel Numbers 2831-011-904, 2831-026- 920 and 2833-014-903 as illustrated in the attached location map. The purpose of this easement is to allow SCE the right of way to construct and maintain a new circuit to serve the growing demands. The existing circuits serving the immediate area have nearly reached their electrical capacity. Installing this new circuit is crucial for supplying power to new customers and accommodating additional load requests from existing customers. Moreover, adding this new circuit will enhance the overall reliability by alleviating the current strain on existing circuits. The projected timeline is 4 to 6 weeks, and it is expected to be completed after hours and will not impact the Newhall Community Center and Metrolink Station. Additionally, as part of the agreement, the City will receive a one-time payment of $54,000 from SCE upon granting the easement. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Other action as determined by the City Council.
