SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF AN EASEMENT FROM SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA EDISON (CITY HALL PARKING LOT)

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve and authorize the City Manager or designee to accept an easement from
Southern California Edison Company, as described and shown on Exhibit "A" Legal Description
and Exhibit "B" Partial Quitclaim of Easement, and execute a Certificate of Acceptance subject
to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
As part of the Santa Clarita 2025 Strategic Plan, the City of Santa Clarita (City) identified a goal
of completing energy efficiency upgrades to City facilities. As a result, the Citywide Energy
Efficiency Project was approved by the City Council on September 27, 2022, which includes
various energy efficiency upgrades throughout City facilities that will save money, reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, and help meet growing energy demand.
The project also includes the installation of solar canopies in the parking lot of City Hall. In
order to connect the solar panels to electrical equipment in City Hall, the City must accept an
easement from Southern California Edison (SCE) that currently conflicts with the location of the
electrical infrastructure required by this project.
The City has formally requested the transfer of easement from SCE on City property, as
described in the attachment. Staff recommends the acceptance of an easement from SCE.
