CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Smyth called to order the Special Study Session meeting at 5:03 p.m.
ROLL CALL
All Councilmembers were present, with the exception of Councilmember Weste who arrived at
5:32 p.m.
FLAG SALUTE
Mayor Pro Tern Miranda led the flag salute.
ITEM 1 SUNRIDGE SPECIFIC PLAN CONCEPT PRESENTATION
A presentation on a concept for the Sunridge Specific Plan, proposed by New Urban West,
which would be located on what is commonly known as the Whittaker-Bermite property.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council receive presentations from City staff and New
Urban West.
Mayor Smyth announced that the applicant, New Urban West, will present information on the
proposed Sunridge Specific Plan.
City Manager Ken Striplin announced that the Council is asked to provide direction and create
a vision for the applicant to move forward.
Jonathan Frankel, representing New Urban West, presented information on the proposed
project.
Addressing the Council were Barbara Myler; Becki Robb, representing SCV Chamber of
Commerce; Ivan Volschenk, representing SCV Chamber of Commerce; Jey Wagner,
representing Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation; Di Thompson,
representing Black Business Council; Brian Schlick; Renee Roque; Denise Lite; and Wil Santos.
Council discussed the extension of Magic Mountain Parkway and Santa Clarita Parkway,
development of office spaces, conference center and hotel, and amphitheater. Council further
commented on affordable housing, the adjacent City -owned property, a potential new athletic
facility, and the transportation and the circulation element.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Smyth adjourned the Special Study Session at 6:34 p.m.
