SUBJECT: RESOLUTION FOR THE APPLICATION AND RECEIPT OF STATE
TRANSIT ASSISTANCE FUNDS
DEPARTMENT: Economic Development
PRESENTER: Adrian Aguilar
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution allowing the City Manager or designee to submit an annual claim
to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for State Transit Assistance
funds.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita (City) is eligible to receive State Transit Assistance (STA) funds
through the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for transit
operating assistance. These funds are derived from the statewide sales tax on diesel fuel and are
appropriated by the California State Legislature to the State Controller's Office (SCO). The SCO
allocates the tax revenue, by formula, to selected agencies. For reference, the Fiscal Year 2024-
25 funding allocation is $853,867. To receive the revenue, the City must submit an annual claim
form to Metro, along with a resolution adopted by the City Council, authorizing the City
Manager or designee to submit the annual claim package to Metro.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The resources required to implement the recommended action are contained within the City of
Santa Clarita's adopted Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget.
