BACKGROUND
The Animal Care Grant Program (Program) was established in 2023 at the direction of the City
Council to strengthen the capacity of local 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and supplement
services being provided through the Castaic Animal Care Center to reduce animal
overpopulation. The Program receives an annual allocation of $50,000, contingent upon the
annual budget process, with priority given to projects that focus on spay and neuter initiatives.
The 2025 grant cycle marks the second year of the Program's history. The application period was
open from April 1 to May 15, 2025, and Program guidelines allowed each eligible non-profit to
apply for up to $10,000 each. To apply, interested non-profit organizations were required to
complete an online application and submit verifying documentation of their 501(c)(3) status.
In order to advertise the Program, City of Santa Clarita (City) staff conducted various outreach
efforts, including a press release, multiple social media posts, direct outreach to eligible non-
profit organizations, and a public information session held on April 8.
