Call to Order: Mayor Miranda called the Study Session to order at
5:00 p.m.
Roll Call
Council: Present: Mayor Miranda, Mayor Pro Tern Weste,
Councilmembers Ayala, Gibbs, and McLean
Absent: None
Planning Commission: Present: Commissioners Burkhart, Eichman, Lite,
Keith, and Verner
Absent: None
Parks, Recreation, and Community Present: Commissioners Cherre, Stabile, Ostrom, and
Thompson
Absent: Commissioner Sugasawara
Arts Commission: Present: Commissioners Millar, Seratti, Shapiro,
Thompson, Rasmussen
Absent: None
Flag Salute: Mayor Miranda led the Flag Salute.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Addressing the Council and Commissions was Diane Zimmerman.
ITEM 1 FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026 BUDGET — City Manager Ken Striplin provided an
overview of the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 proposed budget, budget process,
proposed recommendations, and next steps.
Council and Commission members commented upon the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department contract; uncertainty with tariffs, construction sector labor
force, and insurance market; a new parking structure in Old Town Newhall; parks
planning and open space; and upgrading infrastructure parks for accessibility.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Miranda adjourned the Study Session at 6:14 p.m.
