Call to Order: Mayor Miranda called the Study Session to order at
5:00 p.m.
Roll Call
Council: Present: Mayor Miranda, Mayor Pro Tern Weste,
Councilmembers Ayala, Gibbs, and McLean
Absent: None
Planning Commission: Present: Commissioners Burkhart, Eichman, Lite,
Keith, and Verner
Absent: None
Parks, Recreation, and Community Present: Commissioners Sugasawara, Cherre, Stabile,
Ostrom, Thompson
Absent: None
Arts Commission: Present: Commissioners Millar, Seratti, Shapiro, and
Thompson
Absent: Commissioner Rasmussen
Flag Salute: Commissioner Sugasawara led the Flag Salute.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Addressing the Council and Commissions was TimBen Boydston regarding trolley or shuttle
service in Old Town Newhall.
ITEM 1 FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026 BUDGET — City Manager Ken Striplin provided an
introduction to the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget strategy and goals.
Council and Commission members commented upon filming in Santa Clarita;
maintaining infrastructure; the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
contract; future staffing at Wm. S. Hart Park; parking in Downtown Newhall;
potential Saugus community Center; a Town Center study and economic
resources; hardening structures, fire safety, and evacuation plans; the City's
general fund, capital budget, and special funds; homelessness funding.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Miranda adj ourned the Study Session at 6:10 p.m.
