.., AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA CLARITA ADOPTING BY REFERENCE CERTAIN
UNIFORM CODES, TO WIT:
(1) THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING CODE;
(2) THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MECHANICAL CODE;
AND
(3) THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY PLUMBING CODE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That sections 8.01 through 8.03,
inclusive, of the Santa Clarita Municipal Code are hereby
added to Title 8 to read as follows:

8.01.010 Adoption of the Building Code.

8.01.010 Adoption of the Building Code. There is
hereby adopted by reference that certain Building Code known
and as designated as Title 26 of the Los Angeles County
Code, 1987 Edition, as amended by Los Angeles County
Ordinance 87-0177 and such Code shall be and become the
Building Code of the City, regulating the erection,
construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving,
removal, demolition, conversion, occupancy, use, height,
area and maintenance of all structures and certain equipment
therein specifically regulated, regulating grading within
the City, providing for the issuance of permits and a
collection of fees therefore, and providing penalties for
violation of such Code.
At least one copy of the Los Angeles County
Building Code and the uniform Building Code ("secondary
code") has been deposited in the office of the City Clerk,
and shall be at all times maintained by the Clerk for use
and examination by the public.
8.01.020 Amendments to Certain Sections. The
following sections of the Los Angeles County Building Code,
as amended, adopted by Section 8.01.010 hereof, are hereby
amended to read as follows:
(a) Section 101 amended -- Title. Section 101 0£
Los Angeles County Building Code is amen ed to read as
Lollows:
"Sec. 101. Title. Chapter 8.01 of Title 8 of the
Santa Clarita Municipal Code shall be known as the "Building
Code," and may be cited as such, and will be referred to
herein as "this Code." The provisions of Chapter 8.01
applying to dwellings, lodging houses, hotels, apartments
houses, convents, monasteries or other uses classified by
this Code as a Group R Occupancy, and including Chapters 1,
2, 3, 4, 98 and 99, are and may be cited as the "Housing
Code."
(b) Section 206 amended -- Board of Appeal.
Section 206 of the Los Angeles County Building Code is
amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 206. Board of Agpeals. In order to conduct
the hearings provided or in this chapter, and also to
determine the suitability of alternate materials and types
of construction and to provide for reasonable
interpretations of the provisions of this code, there shall
be a Board of Appeals, consisting of the Planning Commission
of the City of Santa Clarita.The decision of the Planning
Cvuuuiaaiu+a wlLh 4:c2pccL LG any matter of interpretation or
.- suitability of alternate materials and types of construction
shall be made by a majority vote of the Commission and shall
be final and conclusive."
(c) Section 207 amended -- definitions. The
following terms are added to section 2-0-7777 the Los Angeles
County Building Code to read as follows:

" 'County,' 'County of Los Angeles,' or
'Unincorporated Territory of the County of Los Angeles'
shall mean the City of Santa Clarita."
8.01.030 Vio;aticns and Penalties. Pursuant to
Government Code Section 50022.3 the Lollowi.^.-y provi3ions
regarding violations and penalties contained within the Code
incorporated by reference are set forth in full to read as
follows:
(a) Compliance With Code. A person scall not
erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve,
remove, convert, demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain
any building or structure or perform any grading in the
City, or cause the same to be done, contra -y to or in
violation of any of the provisions of this Code.
(b) Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation
violating any of the provisions of this Code shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, each such person shall be deemed
guilty of a separate offense for each and every day or
portion thereof during which any violation of any of the
provisions of this Code is committed, continued or
permitted, and upon ccaviction of any such violation such
person shall be punishable by a fine of not more than
$1,000, or by imprisonment for not more :han six months, or
by auch fine and imprisonment.

providing for the issuance of permits, collection of fees
and providing for violation of such Code.

amended to add the following terms:

'Unincorporated Territory of Los Angeles County' shall mean
the City of Santa Clarita."
8.02.030 Violations and Penalties. Pursuant to
Government Coe Section 50022.4 the following provisions
regarding violations and penalties contained within the Code
inecrp-,rated by reference are set forth in full to read as
follows:
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or
corporation to erect, install, alter, repair, relocate, add
to, replace, use or maintain heating, ventilating, comfort
cooling, or refrigeration equipment in the jurisdiction, or
cause the same to be done, contrary to or in violation of
any of the provisions of this Code. Maintenance of
equipment which was unlawful at the time it was installed,
and which would be unlawful under this Code if installed
after the effective date of this Code, shall constitute a
continuing violation of this Code.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Code shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and each such person shall be deemed guilty of
a separate offense for each and every day or portion thereof
during which any violation of any of the provisions of this
code is committed, continued, or permitted, and upon
conviction of any such violation, such person shall be

punishable by a fine of not more than $1000.00 or by
imprisonment not more than six months, or by both such fine
and imprisonment.

the Plumbing Code of the City, regulating plumbing and
drainage systems, house sewers, private sewage disposal,
drainage systems, and prescribing conditions under which
such work may be carried on within tha City and providing
for the issuance of permits and the collection of fees

Code") has been deposited in the office of the City Clerk
and shall be at all times maintained by the clerk for use
and examination by the public.
8.03.020 Amendments to Certain Sections. The
following sections of the Los Angeles County Plumbing Code,
as amended, adopted by Section 8.03.010 hereof, are hereby
amended to read as follows:
(a) Sec. 1.5 - Title. Section 1.5 of the Los
.. Angeles County Plumbing Code is hereby amended to read as
follows:
"Sec. 1.5 - Title. Chapter 8.03 shall be known as
the Santa Clari.ta P um ing Code, may be cited as such, and
will be referred to as 'this Code.'"
(b) Sec. 5 amended -- Use of Terms. Section 5 of
the Los Angeles County Plumbing Code is hereby amended to
add the following terms:

8.03.030 Violations and Penalties.

Section 2. The provisions of this Ordinance
specifically supersede only those portions of Titles 26, 28
and 29 of the Los Angeles County Code where the provisions
of the Los Angeles County Code are in conflict with this
Ordinance.
Section 3. That the provisions of the Santa
Clarita Municipal Code, set forth in Section 1 h_reo:, have
the effect of adopting and amending certain provisions of
the Los Angeles County Code, which themselves incorporate,
adopt and amend certain uniform codes, to wit:
(1) The Los Angeles County Building Code, as
amended by Ordinance 87-0177;
(2) The Los Angeles County Mechanical Code, as
amended by Ordinance 87-0179;
(3) The Los Angeles County Plumbing Code, as
amended by Ordinance 87-0178;
Section 4. That the City Clerk is hereby
instructs an or Bred to prepare and publish, pursuant tc
Section 36933(c)(1) of the Government Code of the State of
California, a summary of the provisions of this Ordinance.
Section S. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the adopti-on—of this ordinance.
