A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA,
REQUESTING THAT THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES
REFRAIN FROM SELLING OR USING ANIMALS
BROUGHT INTO ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL FROM
AREAS IN SANTA CLARITA OR CAPTURED IN, By
OR FOR THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, FOR
MEDICAL RESEARCH PURPOSES.

services y of Santa Clarita certain contracts for

animal care and control services;
WHEREAS, the City has not yet entered
contracts with the County into the
care and control; for services, including animal
WHEREAS, the City and the County are currently
negotiating the issue of contracting
within the City; for various services
WHEREAS, as negotiations are being conducted, the
County of Los Angeles continues to provide services within
the City, including animal care and control services;
WHEREAS, the housing of captured animals is a
Of the overall service provided by the Count Part
Angeles; y of Los
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles maintains a
Policy of selling a small percentage of the housed animals
which cannot be placed with new owners for medical research
Purposes;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa
Clarita, while recognizing the importance of medical
research, believes that the use of animals for medical
research is inconsistent with the humane treatment of such
animals;
the citizWHEREAS,
itais the desire of the City Council and
that animals be treated in a

humane manner and the City Council has directed the City
Manager to request that the County discontinue the sale or
use of any animals for medical research, regardless of where
the animals are captured or from where the animals have been
obtained.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA CLARITA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the
re uested to County of Los Angeles is

been brought into Animal Care and Control from areas in
Santa Clarita or captured in, by or for the City of Santa
Clarita, for medical research purposes.
