Five supervisors currently service this socially and economically diverse population through districts which encompass over a million and a half persons. Resolution 90-171, prepared for California Contract Cities, expresses Santa Clarita's concerns regarding the current population and diversity of Los Angeles County and the need to effectively service the population through more responsive representation. The Resolution petitions California Contract Cities to consider various options which would facilitate greater representation in the County area. Included among the concepts which might result from this resolution are: 1) Amending the County of Los Angeles Charter to provide for seven, or nine, rather than five supervisors. 2) Placing the creation of the office of County Mayor on the ballot for consideration. 3) Dividing the County of Los Angeles into several counties. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt Resolution 90-171 and transmit to California Contract Cities. ATTACHMENT: Resolution 90-171.
