DATE: August 28, 1990
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION NUMBER: 90-171
DEPARTMENT: City Manager
BACKGROUND:
The County of Los Angeles has a current population of 8,650,370, and a budget of
over six billion dollars. Five supervisors currently service this socially and
economically diverse population through districts which encompass over a million
and a half persons.
Resolution 90-171,.prepared for California Contract Cities, expresses Santa
Clarita's concerns regarding the current population and diversity of Los Angeles
County and the need to effectively service the population through expanded forms
of representation. The Resolution petitions California Contract Cities to
consider various options which would facilitate greater representation in the
County area. The options set forth in Resolution 90-171 include:
1) Amending the County of Los Angeles Charter to provide for
seven, or nine, rather than five supervisors.
2) Provide for Legislation which would place the office of
County Mayor on the ballot for consideration.
3) Dividing the County of Los Angeles into several counties.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council adopt Resolution 90-171 and transmit to California
Contract Cities.
