HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-10-30 - AGENDA REPORTS - LOBBYIST SERVICES (2)0 CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: October 30, 1990 SUBJECT: Lobbyist Services DEPARTMENT: City Manag !2 BACKGROUND On September 25, 1990, the City terminated its contract with the Capital Representation Group for lobbyist services. This item'is now on the agenda for consideration of the present alternatives for such services. The following alternatives are presently available to the City: 1). Retain Jerry Patterson, Esq., of Burke Williams Sorensen, on an hourly basis to aid in activities at the federal level and the Elsmere Canyon Issue'. 2). Solicit proposals from firms for lobbyist services. 3). Hire inter -governmental relations officer as -part of staff. RECOMMENDATION That the City Council discuss and provide direction to staff. Little proven experience in Sacramento 2. Hourly rate of $205.00 ALTERNATIVE #2 - Solicit proposals from variety of firms PROS 1. Comprehensive monitoring program in placein most firms 2. Typically well known and accepted in both Sacramento and Washington 3. Proven track record CONS 1. Time is distributed among many clients 2. Set rate of $2500 Per month and expenses regardless of activity. ALTERNATIVE #3 - Hire IGR officer as part of in house staff r7E%T" 1. In house and immediatly accessible to Legislators, City Council and Staff 2. Focus strictly on issues and legislation impacting Santa Clarita CONS 1.
