INSTALL STOP 7tlk
ROLS
Resolution Nu: 90-103
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BACKGROUND
A traffic engineering survey was conducted to determine the need for stop
controls on Magic Mountain Lane at Stillmore Street. This is "T" intersection
with no existing controls at this time. It is believed that traffic safety can
be improved if a stop sign were installed for southbound traffic on Magic
Mountain Lane at Stillmore Street. A copy of the Traffic Engineer's report is
attached for your information.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution Number 90-103 authorizing stop controls to be installed on
Magic Mountain Lane at Stillmore Street. Direct staff to have the appropriate
sign and pavement legends installed to effect this stop control.

REQUEST
Mr. Ray Erickson of 17587 Stillmore Street has requested that the City
install traffic controls at Magic Mountain Lane -and Stillmore Street.
See Exhibit A.
An evaluation of traffic conditions at.this location has been conducted.
Based on the results of this evaluation, it is recommended that
southbound traffic on Magic Mountain Lane be required to stop before
entering Stillmore Street. This will create a one-way stop at a "T"
intersection. See Exhibit B.
CONDITIONS
Stillmore Street is an east/west residential collector street with curb
and sidewalk on each side. The roadway is 40 . feet wide and driven as
two travel. lanes, one in each direction. On -street parking is
permitted. The prima facie speed limit is 25 mph.
Magic Mountain Lane is a residential collector street that intersections
from the north to form a "T" intersection with Stillmore Street. The
roadway is driven as two travel lanes, one in each direction. Total
roadway improvements do not exist at this time.
DISCUSSION
There are a number of factors which suggest that stop controls would
benefit the intersection. They are:
• The location is the intersection of two residential collector
streets.
• Traffic volumes are heavier than normal traffic for a residential
intersection.

• Magic Mountain Lane approaching Stillmore Street has a downgrade of
approximately 4%.
• There is a single family residence located directly in front of the
south terminus of the intersection.
For these reasons, the stop controls.are recommended.
