As a promotional campaign every year Pepsi selects numerous sites to install a Pepsi Play -Park. The selection is based on community need, population and cultural diversity. Each city was able to. propose up to three parks as candidates for the Play Park. We have submitted applications for North Oaks Park, Almendra Park and Newhall Park. Parks and Recreation plans to redesign and provide upgraded equipment at each of these locations thus a Pepsi Play -Park award will help supplement the cost. The average dollar amount of play equipment provided by Pepsi is approximately 15,000.00. If awarded, the City of Santa Clarita will go to competitive bid for the construction of the Play -Park and installation of the Playground equipment. The type of play equipment provided is the same as that installed at Canyon Country Park. In return for funding part of the Play -Park, Pepsi will use the play area for advertising -purposes. A permanent 2 1/2 foot x 3 1/2 foot Pepsi Play -Park sign will be installed near the play area. Banners will be displayed at the playground dedication and possibly during the promotional campaign for next year's program. The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the Pepsi Play Park report at the June 18th commission meeting. Selected cities will be notified by mail by the end of August 1990. It is recommended that City Council review this report and direct staff to submit our applications for a Pepsi Play Park. Agenda Item:
