SUBJECT: Towsley Canyon Park Signs G
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation Departmentt/

BACKGROUND
The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy has requested assistance directing park
patrons into the newly established Towsley Canyon Park. This assistance will
take the form of signage along the Old Road and within the park area itself
directing people first into the park and secondly to trails, nature center and
parking areas. The Conservancy has made recommendations as to sign wordage,
materials and sign placement, and the costs reflect the materials and the labor
to install them. There may be future requests for assistance'in late February
when the dedication ceremony is expected to occur. Since several Santa Clarita
citizens and civic groups have been involved for many years in securing the
purchase of this land for park purposes, staff is requesting funding for these
signs in the amount of $1,000 to be allocated from the City Council contingency
fund.
Towsley Canyon Park will provide a regional park and open space resource to the
residents of the City of Santa Clarita. Placement of signs will help direct
City residents to the park, enabling them to enjoy the park's hiking trails,
nature center and scenic beauty. The Parks and Recreation Commission has
reviewed this request and recommended approval by the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council allocate $1,000 from the contingency
fund for the purchase and installation of three signs: an entrance sign, a
directional sign, and a park boundary sign for Towsley Canyon Park.
