HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-09-25 - RESOLUTIONS - LACO GREATER REPRESENTATION (2)r RESOLUTION NO. 90-171 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA FOR CONTRACT CITIES OF CALIFORNIA REGARDING THE NEED TO ESTABLISH MEANS FOR GREATER REPRESENTATION IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles encompasses 4,083 square miles; and WHEREAS, the current population of the County of Los Angeles is 8,650,370, which is larger than the population of 39 states, thus warranting additional representation; and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles services a socially and economically diverse population; and WHEREAS, residents of the County of Los Angeles are lacking effective means to reach their elected officials; and WHEREAS, the ability to communicate concerns to elected officials is essential to the democratic form of government; and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles does not presently support the Mira decision which would provide for greater infrastructure and educational facilities: NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE as follows: That the City of Santa Clarita does hereby petition the California Contract Cities Association to request that the California legislature pass enabling legislation allowing a majority of cities within the county, through joint resolution, the option to place Charter Amendments on the ballot in order to enhance representation throughout the County of Los Angeles.
