SUBJECT: ALAMINOS DRIVE AND RIDGEGROVE DRIVE
INSTALL STOP CQNTROLS
Resolution NumVer: 91-39
DEPARTMENT: Public
BACKGROUND
A traffic engineering survey was conducted to determine the need for stop
controls at Alaminos Drive and Ridgegrove Drive. This is a ."T" intersection
with no existing controls at this time. It is believed that traffic safety can
be improved if a stop sign were installed for eastbound traffic on Ridgegrove
Drive at Alaminos Drive. A copy of the Traffic Engineer's report is attached
for your information.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution Number 91-39 authorizing stop controls to be installed on
Ridgegrove .Drive at Alaminos Drive. Direct staff to have the appropriate sign
and pavement legends installed to effect this stop control.

REQUEST
Ms. Pam Cottrell of 21426 Alaminos Drive has expressed concern for traffic
safety at the intersection of Alaminos and Ridgegrove Drives. See site
location map Exhibit "A".
RECOMMENDATIONS:
An evaluation of traffic conditions has been conducted. Based upon the
results of this evaluation it is recommended that traffic on-Ridgegrove Drive
be required to stop before entering Alaminos Drive.. See Exhibit "B".
CONDITIONS•
Alaminos'Drive is a north/south residential collector street. The roadway is
40 feet wide with curb and sidewalk on each side. The street is driven as one
travel lane in each direction. On -street parking is permitted. The prima
facie speed limit is 25 mph.
Ridgegrove,Drive is a residential collector street that forms a "T"
intersection with Alaminos Drive. The roadway is 40 feet wide with curb -and
sidewalk on each side. The street is driven as one travel lane.in each .
directions. On -street parking is permitted. The prima facie speed limit is
25 mph.
DISCUSSION•
It is believed.that'the proposed stop control would be beneficial at this
intersection for the following reasons:
• The location is comprised of two residential collector streets.
• Traffic volumes are heavier.than normal traffic for a residential
intersection.
• The proposed stop control will provide a more positive form of
protection for school age pedestrians as they cross through the
intersection.
For these reasons the stop controls are recommended.
