RECOMMENDED ACTION Receive and review. Agenda Item: 6 c Water Conservation TIP #1 Our State is in the fifth year of a severe drought. It is imperative that you and your family do everything you can to conserve water. TIP: One third of local water usage occurs indoors! About 40% is used to flush toilets. Install a new ultra low flow toilet and save 4-6 gallons of water with every flush! It is imperative that you and your family do everything you can to conserve water. TIP: Showering accounts for about 22% of local indoor water use, with conventional shower heads using 3 to 8 gallons per minute. Install a restricted shower head and reduce your water consumption in the shower. It is imperative that you and your family do everything you can to conserve water. TIP: According to the City of Santa Clarita's Water Ordinance, residential lawns may only be watered every other day and not between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Adjust your lawn sprinklers to avoid over spray and don't water at windy times! It is imperative that you and your family do everything you can to conserve water. aTIP: The City of Santa Clarita's Water Ordinance prohibits the wasteful uses of water. Be sure to monitor your underground plumbing for leaks by shutting off all water uses and monitoring the water meter for a few hours. If there are no leaks, the meter will not move. There are many ways to conserve water that individuals can implement around the house such as: Bathing small children together, don't thaw frozen foods under hot water, scraping plates instead of rinsing them and avoiding b the use of garbage disposals. During the hot summer months, use a pool -and spa cover to reduce evaporation. TIP: The City of Santa Clarita's Water Ordinance restricts watering hours for commercial gardeners, landscapers and other commercial and municipal users.
