SUBJECT: SAN FERNANDO ROAD (STATE ROUTE 126)
PLACERITA CREEK TO DRAYTON STREET
(PROJECT NO. 9A-27) ADVERTISE FOR BIDS
DEPARTMENT: Public Worl
BACKGROUND
Project No. 91-27 provides for the widening of San Fernando Road from Placerita
Creek to Drayton Street. This widening project consists of construction of
curb, gutter, base, pavement and a reinforced. concrete slab bridge over
Placerita Creek. This project is eligible: for FAU funds, and has been
identified as FAU Project No. M-5126(12) CRPL-089(668). Council previously
approved a State/City Draft Cooperative Agreement for the construction on
May 14, 1991.
The total estimated cost of the project is $10.5 million of which $7.97 million
is in prior year budgets and the remainder of 2.53 million is to be included in
the Proposed Fiscal Year 1991-92 Budget. Approximately $6.73 million of this
estimated total is comprised of Federal local and regional highway funds.
Account No. 25-96027-227 has been established to track all costs associated with
the project.
Staff of Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC) has assured us
that funding for these improvements is available; however, the source of funding
has not been officially approved by the full Commission. We have decided to
proceed with advertising for bids now in order to construct bridge improvements
in Placerita Creek before the rainy season. We anticipate the funding issue
will be resolved before the bidsareawarded in mid July. If not, we will
simply recommend a delay in the award until the funding is resolved.
Plans and specifications for this project have been completed and are available
for review in the offices of the City Clerk and the Director of Public Works.
Approve the plans and specifications for the project, and authorize the
advertising for bids.
