HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-03-10 - AGENDA REPORTS - AWARD BID NEWHALL POOL PROJ (2)* .. k AGENDA REPORT City Manager Item to be D CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: MARCH 10, 1992 SUBJECT: AWARD BID FOR THE NEWHALL POOL RENOVATION PROJECT DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION BACKGROUNP The Parks and Recreation Department has completed the bidding process for the renovation of the Newhall Park Pool. The renovation is necessary because much of the pool piping, drains, filters, and decking are not operating correctly and are below acceptable City standards. The pool renovation includes base bid items. such as a new automated filter system which is now a standard in several parks, and the plumbing associated with the filter system. The City will also be able to purchase add alternate items such. as new pool drains, lighting conduits, pool tile, and new pool decking. A total of seven proposals were submitted to the City and. publicly opened at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 25, 1992. The, engineer estimate for this p . roject including all the add alternates was $255,000. The following bids were received: Name Total Bid Western Water Features $170,355 Disqualified McAlpine $ Salyer $193,313 California Pools $196,500 Evans & Sons $207,605 Nadar, Inc. $210,420 Shasta Industries $259 900 Paddack Pools $283:250 Western Water Features has. been disqualified based on an error in their bid proposal which would cause a detrimental financial impact on their company. McAlpine. and Salyer Construction, Inc. is the lowest responsible bidder for this project. Reference checks have been positive and their expertise and understanding of the project scope of work qualifies McAlpine and Salyer Construction, Inc. for this project. W -M Construction of this project will begin in March and will be completed in June of this year. Coordination with the Boys and Girls Club project will enable both projects to be complete and opened at the same time. FISCAL IMPACT Funds are available in account 25-99015-227 to complete this project. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council award the Newhall Pool Renovation project to McAlpine and Salyer Construction, Inc. in the amount of $193,313 and that an additional $15,000,be encumbered for any change orders which may become necessary once construction begins.
