SUBJECT: City Parks Janitorial Service
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
BACKGROUND
The Parks and Recreation Department has completed the bidding process for the
City parks janitorial services. The janitorial services will continue to
support the recreational needs of clean and well maintained facilities. The
Recreation Division has increased their number of programs by 100 percent, and
building rentals have increased by 75 percent over the past year.
The contract term will be for one year with the option to renew. The
contractor will perform the services seven days per week; this will enable us
to reassign two part-time employees and concentrate on the maintenance work
orders we receive daily.
A total of five bids were submitted to the City and were publicly opened at
11:00 a.m..on Thursday, August 20, 1992.
The following bids were submitted to the City:
Century Maintenance Company $22,140 (Disqualified)
Bell Building Maintenance Company $30,576
Executive -Suite, Inc. $32,100
Magic Maintenance $50,640 (Local)
Classic Touch $68,640 (Local)
Century Maintenance Company has been disqualified based on an error in their
bid proposal that would cause a detrimental financial impact on their
company. Bell Building Maintenance Company is the lowest responsible bidder
for this project. Reference checks have verified_ their expertise and
understanding of the scope of work.
Funds for these services are available in account number 01-9220-227 (Contract
Services).
It is recommended that the City Council award the janitorial services contract
to Bell Building Maintenance Company in the amount of $30,576, and that an
additional $11,610 be encumbered for any change orders which may become
necessary once the contract is in effect.
