The City's Community Service Grant Program was designed to provide assistance to social service community agencies with the intention of enhancing the quality of life in the City. A selection committee comprised of Council members Darcy and Heidt, plus staff members reviewed all of the grant applications. The selection committee used a variety of criteria in making their decision. These include: - The Community Service Agency must expend these funds solely and exclusively to provide facilities and services to the residents' of Santa Clarita. - The community-based organization must be a non-profit agency whose community service goals benefit the community. In addition, the following list of human service needs were used as a guide to award funds: - mental health - senior services - child care - educational project - anti-drug education for adults and youth - domestic violence - youth crime prevention delinquency prevention - job training for the disadvantaged and youth - outdoor recreation expansion and unanticipated needs. - poverty program All of these human service needs are priorities in the City of Santa Clarita. A��WUWED Agenda Item: � 'Page 2 Agenda Report: COMMUNITY SERVICES GRANT 1991-92 Of the 44 applicants for the 1992 Community Service Grant Program 28 agencies were found to have met the eligibility requirements to receive the allotted funds. The recommended agencies are as indicated in the Attachment. RECOMMENDATION That the City Council award eligible recipients as noted. Citizens for Sheltered Remedy pet over -population. 1,000 Animals, Inc. Adopt -a -Pet program equipment. 4. :Assistance Guild of Fitting needy children with 2,500 Santa Clarita complete sets of clothing. "Footsteps" 5. Santa Clarita Valley Supply supplemental groceries to 8,000 Food Pantry those people who do not fit exact -requirements for government but are still needy. Purchase achievement certificates, rewards and incentive equipment The club is expanding its focus on prevention and intervention to "Say No to Drugs." To provide dispute resolution options at no cost to the user. REQUEST AMOUNT DESCRIPTION RECOMMENDE For low income families to 6,000 receive financial assistance for child care. To address the problem of Math 2,000 and Science avoidance by girls. Informal education opportunities - Provide own facility to be run 2,500 by volunteers to help troubled vets. Replace current track runways for 4,000 safety reason.
