U c\ SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL HOUSEHOLD. HAZARDOUS WASTE GRANT APPLICATION AB2448 - SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SITE AND MAINTENANCE RESOLUTION NO. 92-41 DEPARTMENT: Public Works BACKGROUND Funds were established under AB2448, the 1987 Eastin bill, and are available to the City of Santa Clarita from the Solid Waste Disposal Site Cleanup and Maintenance Account. The Program is administered by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Under the Household Hazardous Waste Management Program, the City is eligible to apply for funds to mitigate the environmental impacts of reducing Household Hazardous Waste. Funds will be requested to cover the cost of collecting used motor oil and used batteries in the City of Santa Clarita. Maximum funds available per applicant is $120,000.. The application is on file at the City Clerk's office. RECOMMENDATION Approve Resolution No. 92-41 authorizing the submittal of Household Hazardous Waste Grant Application. ATTACHMENTS Resolution No. 92-41 /rc ab2448.agd t Adopted: _q� Agenda Item: -- RESOLUTION NO. 92-41 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AUTHORIZING A HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE GRANT APPLICATION WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita recognizes that it is in the public interest to enact and implement an integrated waste management plan to address the state's diminishing landfill space and the potential adverse environmental impacts from landfilling; and WHEREAS, funds have been established by Assembly Bill 2448 (Fastin, 1987), and are available from the Solid Waste Disposal Site Cleanup and Maintenance Account in the General Fund through the California Integrated Waste Management Board for grants to local governments to establish and implement waste diversion and separation programs to prevent disposal of hazardous waste, including household hazardous waste, in solid waste landfills. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of Santa Clarita authorizes the submittal of an application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board of a Household Hazardous Waste grant. The Mayor of the City of Santa Clarita is hereby authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Santa Clarita all necessary applications, contracts, and agreements and amendments hereto for the purposes of securing grant funds and to implement and carry out the purposes specified in this application.
