HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-09-08 - AGENDA REPORTS - REQUEST TOWN SHUTTLE (2)r AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented by: Jeff Kolin NEW BUSINESS DATE: September 8, 1992 SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM VALENCIA TOWN CENTER FOR SHUTTLE DEPARTMENT: Public Works Valencia Town Center has requested that Santa Clarita Transit provide a bus or van to shuttle employees from a special employee lot to the employee parking entrance during the first four days of full mall operation (see attached letter). Operationally it may not be possible to provide a vehicle on Thursday or Friday, however, we can provide a vehicle on Saturday and Sunday. The main dilemma is the City's charter policy prohibits charters for profit businesses such as the mall. However, since mall management has indicated a desire to promote transit usage, we would like to cooperate with the mall in this endeavor. Valencia Town Center would fully compensate the City for providing this service. Authorize an exception to the City charter policy so that Santa Clarita Transit may enter into a charter agreement with Valencia Town Center to shuttle employees between a satellite parking facility and the mall. VTC:agen September 3, 1992 Ron Kilcoyne Transit Director City of Santa Clarita Dear Ron: Pursuant to your conversation, ValenciaTownCenter would like a proposal on costs from the City of Santa Clarita to run a shuttle bus service from remote parking for employees during the Grand Opening activities September 24 -September 27. Parking at the shopping center will be at a premium during this peak time for our opening; we have arranged with Newhall Land and Farming Company, to use the vacant lot across Valencia Blvd from the Center as off-site parking for employees; the bus would run a shuttle service from this lot to a pre- determined employee entrance. Our immediate thoughts would be to run the bus from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (we'd also like to include Sunday but assume you do not offer service on Sunday), and would like an hourly rate from you for the service. I assume the smallest bus you have would suffice. If this service is agreeable with you, I'd also like to work with you on installing some "propaganda" on the shuttle bus encouraging employees to ride the bus on a regular basis.
