SUBJECT: SIERRA HIGHWAY N/0 SOLEDAD WIDENING & RESTRIPING
(PROJECT 91-13) BID AWARD
DEPARTMENT: Community Development
BACKGROUND
On March 24, 1992, Council authorized the advertisement of the subject project.
The project includes widening and restriping of Sierra Highway north of Soledad
Canyon Road. The project provides for a painted dual left turn median to
accommodate motorists making left turns; the widening allows for appropriate
lane widths. On April 21, 1992, the following bids were received by the City
Clerk:

R.C. Becker & Son Inc. - Newhall, CA $55,021.90
Padilla Paving Co., Inc. - Sun Valley, CA $59,462.50
Padilla and Sons Co. - Sylmar, CA $62,348.25
Granite Construction - Watsonville, CA $63,370.00
Paladin Construction - Cucamonga, CA $69,168.00
Berry General Engineering - Oxnard, CA $70,116.00
The Engineer's estimate for this project is $83,864. A total of $125,000 has
been budgeted under Account No. 25-95013-227 for design, contract
administration, inspection and construction; which includes costs incurred by
the County for striping after the widening of Sierra Highway is completed.
Staff recommends that the project be awarded to Excel Paving, the low.bidder.
Excel Paving possesses the necessary State Contractor's license and is a.member
in good standing.
RECOMMENDATION
Award the contract to Excel Paving in the amount of $54,924.85.
