These improvements include replacing the asphalt in the medians with landscape, irrigation, and colored, stamped concrete. The result is an aesthetically improved median which helps define the roadway corridor and provides visual relief with the trees and shrubs. The hardscape used on this section of median improvements was a brick red, hexagon -shaped, stamped concrete. This pattern of concrete most closely matched the surrounding design of the area and was. architecturally compatible with the red tile roofs of adjacent structures. As design proceeds with the medians on Soledad Canyon from Sand Canyon to Shadow Pines, the type of surfacing treatment to the medians must be selected. Due to the more rural atmosphere and .natural coloration of the surrounding area, a stamped river rock pattern more accurately accents the roadway. Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Commission, at their last regularly scheduled meeting, recommended not using the red stamped concrete for the Canyon Country area. They felt that the Canyon Country median design should reflect a more natural appearance. The attached photograph shows a sample of the stamped river rock pattern. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that City Council direct staff to proceed with design of the Soledad medians using the stamped river rock architectural treatment.
