Harris SUBJECT: Consideration of Sports Canyon Development, Inc. and Recreation Technologists, Inc. to work with City staff relating to the preliminary work for a family entertainment center DEPARTMENT: Community Development BACKGROUND: At its meeting of January 14, 1992, the City. Council deliberated on the family entertainment center report. The item was continued to the January 28, 1992 meeting to 'allow for staff to meet with Mr. Richard Jewett to discuss his proposed Sports Canyon development. Upon City Council direction, staff met with Mr. Jewett on January 15, 1992. Mr. Jewett informed the staff team that he has been proceeding with his project, unaware that the City had initiated attraction efforts for a family entertainment facility. Staff believes that City recreational needs possibly could be served by either recreational entertainment firm. Further, this action gives the City an opportunity to utilize one of the two firms as a secondary resource if one firm is unable to complete the project. Mr. Jewett's proposal is similar to the. Rec Tech proposal and includes a clubhouse, childcare facility, and baseball, volleyball, golf, and baseball uses. Mr. Jewett tentatively has secured a site of approximately 30-40 acres near Golden Triangle and Soledad Canyon Roads, which is part of Tract 42670. (Tract 42670 has not yet received final map approval from the City.) Both Sports Canyon Development, Inc. and Recreation Technologists, Inc. are not requesting any financial incentives from the City at this time. RECOMMENDATION• 1. Staff to work with both Recreation Technologists, Inc. and Sports Canyons Development, Inc..in the preliminary project planning stages; 2. Work with Recreation Technologists, Inc. to conduct a site/product feasibility study to augment City needs and services recognizing private marketplace objectives, and; 3. Report back toCityCouncil with a status report by July 1, 1992. APPROVED agenda lfem:________
